Happy New Year

Happy New Year, 2020! I glanced today and realized I haven’t blogged in over a month. Oh, the horrors of it all. But here’s what I have done in the last month. I wrote 33,000 words on the rough draft of a new book. What is your plan for the new year. What goals would you aspire to reach?

I’m working on a book dealing with organized vs. disorganized people; a fascinating and complex subject. I fall on the disorganized side and find the differences between the two spectrums deep and wide.

What are your goals for this year?

What are your goals for this year? For 2020? You should have some. You reach none of the goals you don’t set. You arrive at none of the destinations you don’t chart. You accomplish none of the projects you don’t start. For years, I had this wrongheaded idea that accomplishments in life would just happen. If I rolled out of bed enough mornings, I’d eventually land on the floor of success.

You Will Accomplish Something

Here’s a clue. You will accomplish something this year. You will accomplish either what you want to do or what someone else wants you to do. If you set no goals and have no plan, you will inevitably fall into the orbit of someone else’s goals and plans. Problem is, they don’t have your best interest at heart. When I walk into work today, I will face other people who want me to be on their agenda. They don’t care about whether I write a book or publish a blog. They care about whether I get something done at work that makes their day easier. That’s how jobs work. You do work for someone else and they pay you.

Time for Yourself

Make sure starting today, you chart out your day, your week, your month, and your year. Make time for yourself. This is not mere time to drink camomile tea in your slippers. This is time to work on your agenda. Set aside time for yourself each day to work on one goal that will move your life forward. Do this enough times over the next year and your life can be greatly enhanced. Don’t do it and you’ll be back here next year at the same place. Happy New Year and Happy Goal Setting.
